Skincare Beyond The Face

We talk about taking care of the skin on your face quite often, but today we are diving into total body skincare. Read on to see which things you are already doing right, and what you can add into your daily routine.

5 Body Skincare Tips

  1. Exfoliate. You probably already know to exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week, but did you know that exfoliating your entire body is important. We suggest using a body scrub to gently remove dead skin, leaving your skin fresh and soft after you shower.
  2. Keeping your skin moisturized is key. We recommend moisturizing your entire body after you shower, your pores are open and ready to take in all of that moisture and nutrients.
  3. Your hands can easily show your age so make sure you are taking good care of them. Be sure to moisturize them throughout the day, along with using a cuticle oil in the evening.
  4. Layer on the sunscreen. Even on cloudy days, you need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin. See our blog post here to learn all about how to find the right sunscreen for you.
  5. Many of us suffer from facial acne, but body acne is also a problem for many. We suggest using an acne body cleanser which will help kill acne-causing bacteria.

How to pick the right sunscreen to protect your skin

Spending time in the sun is a must in the summer. But it also means your skin is exposed to harmful UV rays that can lead to premature skin aging, painful sunburns, and even skin cancer. That can all be prevented with a good sunscreen, but which one to choose? There are a lot of options out there, so don’t get duped! Read our sunscreen guide to get the facts on what’s most important in a sunscreen.

Pick the right SPF

This can vary based on your skin type, SPF 30 is the most commonly recommended. SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays. So, the difference between 30 and 50 is about 1 percent. We highly recommend you pick at least SPF 30. SPF 50 is great for those days you spend the entire day out in the sun.

How often should you apply your sunscreen

Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours for the best protection. Even if your skin isn’t burning, you could be at risk from harmful UV rays after that period.

How much sunscreen should I use?

A good rule of thumb is to use 1 teaspoon for each body part. A teaspoon for your face and neck, arm, leg, chest, and back.

Does SPF block all types of harmful UV rays?

SPF protects against ultraviolet B rays, which is what causes sunburn. But it may not protect against ultraviolet A rays, which can cause skin cancer and premature aging of the skin. If you want to be sure you’re protected against both types of UV rays, look for a sunscreen that’s labeled “broad-spectrum.”

Why Use Toner?

Do you use a toner as part of your daily skincare routine? If not you might want to continue reading to find out what a toner could do for your skin.

Why Use Toner?

Benefits of Toner
  • Helps to reduce the appearance of rough, dry skin, leaving it looking softer and smoother
  • Supports healthy skin hydration for a younger-looking, radiant complexion
  • Exfoliates skin to cleanse pores and remove impurities and excess oils

Toner FAQs

How do I apply a toner?
Toners are usually a thin textured formula that can be easily applied with a small cotton ball or cotton round. Gently wipe across the face until it feels completely clean. Toners can cause a tightening effect on the skin, so it’s important to always finish your regimen with a moisturizer.
How is toner different from a cleanser?
A cleanser removes surface dirt, oil, impurities, and pollutants from the face. Toner helps to remove excess oils and impurities that lie a bit deeper in the skin by gently exfoliating the skin. Both cleansing and toning help to prepare the skin for the application of skin treatments and moisturizer.
When during my skincare regimen do I use a toner?
Using a toner is the second step in the cleansing process. It should be applied daily after your cleanser, to help remove excess oils and dead skin that may still be present on the face after cleansing. Toner helps prepare the skin for other skincare products, so apply it before moisturizer or other products.
